Welcome to Caerlaverock Estate

About Caerlaverock Estate

Caerlaverock Estate is a hidden gem located on the south west coast of Scotland, five miles south of Dumfries. A destination for everyone, both young and old; it is the perfect location for a day trip, or for a longer holiday to truly enjoy all that Caerlaverock has to offer!

Surrounded on all sides by stunning scenery, the Estate encompasses a medieval castle; ancient woodland; a coastal national nature reserve; a WWT reserve; a livestock and arable ‘home farm’ with a herd of Belted Galloway cattle; several tenanted farms (many of which have passed down through generations); and an array of properties available for holidays or long term rental.

Caerlaverock is perhaps best known for its castle, which is one of the finest and best preserved 13th century curtain walled castles in Britain – constructed in a unique triangular shape, and surrounded by ancient woodland aside the shores of the Solway Firth.

The Estate is privately owned and has remained within the same family for over 800 years.  Over many generations, the Estate has focused on community, environmental stewardship, heritage and culture.  Under the guidance of its present owner, it continues to do so, with a particular focus on nature restoration alongside the prudent use of farmland for food production.
